102.8 + pink eye = lack of sleep + one cranky toddler

Sleep in our house is really lacking. This past week Eli has not been sleeping well and we thought it was due to his canines coming in. Other than sleep issues, we had no other real indication that something was wrong. Friday night Eli was up for a few hours in the middle of the night and he was burning up. I thought it was due to how I dressed him so we down-dressed and got him back to bed. Yesterday he seemed not quite himself but still had fun with Ryan at the library. Well, it all came to a head last night. His temperature started climbing and his energy started dropping. Into the night, his temp got to 102.5 degrees - the highest we've seen for him. We had a plan of attack and Tim + I tag teamed the night to get us all through. I think we each managed to get 3 hours or so sleep at a time. This morning the wait for the doctor's hotline seemed like forever. We got an appointment this afternoon and his temp at doc's office was 102.8 - and this is under the arm without adding a degree! He definitely has pink eye - that was an easy diagnosis. They took a blood sample and checked his white blood cell counts. Those came back ok so that ruled out pneumonia. But then, that led us back to a viral respiratory infection (he's also coughing and breathing laboredly). Ugh, viral - that means no drugs will help him. We did get the antibiotic eye drops to help the pink eye and are just using Mommy + Daddy TLC and doses of Tylenol to combat the rest. I'll be staying home with him tomorrow so hopefully we're heading out of the woods on this. Tonight we've seen glimpses of our happy little boy and he's starting to talk to us again. He has been very lethargic so this is good.

Keep your fingers crossed for us that we'll have a decent night - or at least the patience and tag-teamness to make it through. This parenting thing stinks when your kids are sick and you can't do anything about it. I feel so bad for Eli and it makes my heart break to see his little crusted up eye and snotty nose knowing I can't just fix it.

Library Rhyme Time

With the cold temps today, we opted not to go for a walk but instead to try Rhyme Time at the library. Eli's buddy Ryan (and Mom Carol) went with us for the boys' first library visit. They enjoyed running through the library stacks and looking at all the books. Rhyme Time was fun - full of songs, rhymes, stories and bubbles. We think the boys enjoyed it. After that it was off to Chick-fil-a for lunch and home for nap time.

Breakfast with "Baa" and "Moo"

Eli LOVES his animals. Now he has started having breakfast with "Baa" and "Moo". He asks for them when he gets to the table if they're not there. What's even cuter is that he tries to feed them his food. He especially loves "Baa" and takes him on rides to school in Daddy's truck as well as most night to bed with him. Aunt Val, bet you never thought the birthday farm would get this much use?!!

Weekend Recap and Catching up on pictures

Whew, things have been busy at our house. Grandma C came up this weekend to hang out with Eli while Tim & I emptied out the attic and garage. We are going to convert our walk-in attic to a bonus room so everything had to be removed for the contractor to start. Friday, we had a 'Pack-Rat' delivered and it now resides in our front yard. Grandma C arrived at dinner that night and took Eli off our hands - put him to bed and let us run out for some play time at Barnes & Noble. (yes we're nerds!) Saturday morning we started pretty early going through the attic deciding what to keep, what to trash and what to donate. It went fairly smoothly and we got a lot done. This morning we worked on the garage and got most of it taken care of. Just a few things for Tim to do this week and we hope to start on the room in a week. Like we don't have enough going on, we're adding this chaos to the mix!! They'll tear off the roof and structure over the garage, rebuild it, reroof the entire house and then finish out the new bonus room space. We're hoping it will only take two months - and yes, there will be picture updates as we go. It's very exciting!! Eli will love having his own playroom and lots of room to roam. Thank you very much Grandma C for coming up this weekend - you were a HUGE help. Now for pictures....

This afternoon Eli's friend Ryan came over for a bit after his Mom & I took a yoga class. The boys were so funny pushing each other around on toys. Eli pushed Ryan in the big Tonka truck and Ryan pushed Eli on the tractor. These two are like little peas in a pod - I can only imagine the trouble they'll cause as they get older!

Welcome 2009

Happy New Year everyone - Welcome to 2009!

Today was a fun day for our family. Last year we did a 5k and at that time said we'd do it every New Year's. Well, it was VERY cold this morning so we opted to not go to the official 5k BUT Eli & I did our very own 5k around the neighborhood. We got all bundled up - Eli in his snowsuit with the shield on the stroller - and off we went. Proud to have started the new year off with a little exercise.

For lunch we, along with apparently multiple other area parents, went to Chick-fil-a. We let Eli play in the play area for the first time and he really had fun with his new friends. He wasn't sure about going down the slide so Mommy had to go up and slide with him. Then a quick trip to REI and Babies R Us and back home for nap. Kind of a low key family day.

Been thinking about what 2009 is going to bring us. I've deemed it the year of chaos for us - adding a baby to our house is going to be crazy, not to mention that Eli will turn 2. But I've also started focusing on a word for the year. A scrapbooker whose blog I follow always chooses one word for her year and tries to let that help guide her. I think I've chosen "Simple" for me this year. I need to learn to keep things simple and focus on what matters most to me and my family. We don't make resolutions in our house (don't believe in them) but I do think keeping my word in mind will help me as I go throughout the year.
